Cash Control Kenya

Cash Drawer Reconciliation

How to reconcile a cash drawer by comparing opening cash, sales, expenses and closing cash.

Cash drawer reconciliation checks whether the cash in the till matches what the business records say should be there.

Record the opening float

Start with the amount of cash placed in the drawer at the beginning of the day.

Add cash received

Add all cash sales and any other cash received into the business.

Subtract cash paid out

Subtract expenses, withdrawals, supplier payments and any cash transferred out of the drawer.

Count physical cash

Count the money in the drawer and compare it with the expected balance.

If the drawer is short or over, check receipts, change given, expenses and withdrawals before closing the day.
